Many common questions will be answered when you Try for Free! Below are some common questions and answers. Feel free to Contact Us if you have another question.
Q:
Do the PMP prep courses count toward the project management training requirements when applying to take the PMP exam?
A:
Absolutely! The Project Management Institute (PMI) recognizes these PMP prep courses as quality professional project management training, and will recognize the training when you apply. In fact, the courses were created in cooperation with the PMI and are aligned with "A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge" (PMBOK® Guide) - Fourth Edition", published by the Project Management Institute (PMI®), Inc., 2008. A transcript and certificate from PMI REP Skillsoft (REP #1008), is readily available on our learning portal and can be provided to the PMI.
You can actually try a course for free and earn PDUs or project management training credit hours for your PMP application. See our "Try for Free!" page for further details.
Q:
How are courses credited toward PDU's for purposes on continuing PMI/PMP certification?
A:
Skillsoft is a Registered Education Provider (REP #1008) of the Project Management Institute (PMI). Project Management Training Online is a direct Skillsoft Business Partner and Reseller, so you can easily obtain a certificate directly from your personalized learning portal upon completion of any course. You can then submit these PDUs under Category 3 as PDUs earned from REP training.
Alternatively, you may be record completed courses as a Category 4 Professional Development Unit (PDU) qualifying activity. According to PMI Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR), "To calculate the number of PDUs earned, use the following formula: one (1) contact hour of learning relevant to project management within a structured activity or course equals one (1) PDU." Contact hours for each course are listed in the description, or in most cases in the title.
For more detailed information directly from the Project Management Institute(PMI), see the Continuing Certification Requirements Program (CCR) Handbook from the PMI, which outlines the requirements to maintain the Project Management Professional (PMP) Credential.

The Project Management Institute (PMI) provides many opportunities for earning PDUs, and the PMI has divided these into 5 Categories. Click summary of the categories of PDUs for a matix of the various PDU categories, or click download PDU spreadsheet. For the official PMI document which outlines how you can earn PDUs, go to the Continuing Certification Requirements Program (CCR) Handbook on the PMI web site.
Q:
Is Project Management Training Online accredited?
A:
There is no "accreditation" per se. However, the Project Management Institute (PMI) does have a Registered Education Provider (REP) program. Project Management Training Online sells quality training products from Skillsoft, Mindleaders, and Crosswind PM - all Registered Education Providers (REPs) of the Project Management Institute (PMI). The vast majority of the courses are by Skillsoft (PMI REP #1008), and certificates for training are readily available to you directly from your personalized portal site upon completion of courses. All PMP materials have been created in close alignment with "A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge" (PMBOK® Guide) - Fourth Edition (the latest), published by the Project Management Institute (PMI®), Inc., 2008. PDU courses have also been reviewed by the PMI and accepted for their relevant content, as they are listed on the PMI site in the REP area. See our "Earn PDUs" page for further details on Category 3 and 4 PDU courses.
Thus, as a reseller of these courses, Project Management Training Online has elected to leave the registration with the PMI (REP status) to these and other companies, and focus on bringing a wide variety and large range of choices to you at very economical prices. When you complete a course from Project Management Training Online, you will have the option to obtain a certificate to be used to claim PDUs under Category 3 for REPs, or you can submit to the PMI as Category 4 PDUs. In either case, you can have the confidence that the course content meets the PMI's high standards for quality, and that the PMI will accept them.
For more detailed information directly from the Project Management Institute(PMI) about 'accreditation', REP's, Category 3 PDUs, Category 4 PDUs, and other relevant info, see the Continuing Certification Requirements Program (CCR) Handbook from the PMI, which outlines the requirements to maintain the Project Management Professional (PMP) Credential. Also, we encourage you to call the PMI directly, as the people are very helpful and forward about answering questions.
Q:
How can Project Management Training Online help me to pass the PMP or CAPM exam?
A:
We can help by providing a very comprehensive collection of online training, including web-based interactive training, printable materials, exam simulations, and PMP Prep podcasts packaged at a very affordable price. Add to that access to 24x7 mentoring with trained PMPs, who can help you through any difficult study problem.
For suggested steps to successfully passing one of the exams, see our special pages “Pass the PMP Exam” and “Pass the CAPM Exam”.]
Here are some suggested steps:
- Go through the training in no more than 3 months. Set a schedule, and stick to it. Review for familiarity the appropriate section of the PMBOK after you cover topic in the training.
- The material will be reinforced while taking each course. If you are on a tough topic, print out the study aids that are part of the particular online training module. Within a week or so after completing the course, do some questions on the topic within the exam simulation.
- Take one complete PMP or CAPM exam simulation right up front. See how you do, and what your strengths and weaknesses are. This will make you a little sharper and alert for information as you continue the online training. Take another full PMP or CAPM exam simulation every 3-4 weeks, even if you have not finished the courses.
- In the last month, focus work with the simulations on your trouble areas by using the flash cards and topic specific study mode.
- Shoot for 80-90% scores on the tests as you get close to the test. In order to receive PMI credit for any training, yo must achieve a minimum of 70% on all tests within the training.
- 6. If you need to, read books, online, audios, or any other materials that you can find to see things from different angles and approaches.
